Learning in Public

This will be my first post on this new platform and a format that I am not used to so this will be a combination of thoughts and format testing. Perhaps appropriately for this then, the topic I wanted to talk about is a concept called Learning in Public or alternatively Today I learned. The behind the concept is to put ones learning in a public space where anyone can access it. For me this serves at least three separate purposes:

  1. It keeps me accountable - It means that i have some level of external pressure to actually write down things I learn and progress I make. Whether anyone else actually reads it or not is not necessarily very important, bercause the imagined pressure and motivation is there. Writing down such lessons hopefully forces me to understand them well enough to be able to write them down in a semi concise way that can actually be understood by another human being.
  2. Secondly, it serves as a searchable archive of the most important discoveries and lessons, hopefully written in a way that I can go back a year from now and relearn the things I have forgotten in the meanwhile.
  3. Lastly, it serves as a reminder and nice collection of things that you have achieved. I think we can all relate to the feeling of time flying away and achievements falling into the murky waters of the past rather quickly. Having a public and clear archive of things you have learned, worked on and achieved, can help bring more clarity and attention to the things we have done, and not just the things we still need to do.

My intent here with this little notice is that it will serve as a nice test of the platform and also as a commitment to try and learn in public.

Hopefully more to come!
